Meanwhile, we continue to hold weekly Zoom meetings every Monday night at 7pm. If you are a club member and would like to take part, please get in touch with Mark (or Rockey) or drop us a message through the contact form or via Facebook and we will do our best to accommodate you.
As of mid-July 2020, the club is still unfortunately closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. It is the intention of the club to reopen as soon as we can and once appropriate social distancing measures are put into place. This will naturally involve discussions with Stoke Hill Community Association as to when the whole St Katherine's Priory site can safely reopen.

We always enjoy taking our layouts to exhibitions and this last fortnight we have been totally thrilled to win best in show, twice (with two layouts). Rolstone won the 'best in show' award at Willand on 21 September (pictured below), while our smaller layout 'The Junction' won 'best in show' at Blandford Forum on 28-29 September.
Congratulations to everyone for their hard work! As part of the website refresh, an Events Calendar has been added. This automatically takes data from our club's Google Calendar, meaning that all of our club events are listed on here without having to do any copying and pasting between the two.
We have included all club nights up to December 2019 and have also included the dates of any key open days, exhibitions we are attending with the club's layouts, as well as our AGM and other local events. Hopefully this will be useful to all members and visitors. Wow! Has it really been over four-and-a-half years since we updated the website? While we have been active on our facebook page, our website has been sadly neglected due to work and other commitments. But we have decided to try and put that right and update things more often.
However, despite the lack of updates here, the club itself has still been incredibly active. New members have joined up and the upper floor of the Priory is often quite full on some Monday nights. Running nights (where we bring our own trains and rolling stock to run) are still very popular too; these now occur on the first Monday of every month. Work is still progressing well on all of our layouts. Priory Junction has had an extension so that trains can run a full circuit without stopping. The extension has meant that a lot more track laying, wiring and scenic jobs have had to be completed - and it's still far from done! Work is also progressing on the Exeter Central 'N' gauge layout. A lot of point motors were wired in during the last few months, although again there is still work to be done here. Our small 72A 'N' gauge layout is often out and about at exhibitions and we have been bequeathed another layout (more on that later). If you want to join us, please get in touch via this site or Facebook and we will do our best to get back to you as soon as possible. Oh and do like our tea and biscuits! We have a new scale joining our club, G Scale. The Junction 72A MRC has welcomed new members with a new scale known as G Scale. This is a lot bigger than our other two scales, OO gauge and N Gauge. The picture below taken at the latest running night shows the difference in size between a OO gauge loco and a G Scale loco, and the size of the track it uses! Here are some more photos from the running night. Some of these, and more, can be found under each layout photo section.
A couple of photos showing some of the younger members of the club at work on one of the exhibition layouts that will feature at the North Devon Model Railway Show in Bideford on the 25th May 2014.
A selection of photos from last nights running sessionThis was the first running session that included the N gauge layout, Exeter St Katherine's, fully operational.
Thanks to many of the members brought along a selection of locos and rolling stock along to run on both scales. Also thanks to Graeme who was our photographer for the night and managed to capture these amazing shots. The Junction 72A MRC turns 2!I would just like to thank everybody who has turned up over the past two years to the club. Whether you help out every week or just turn up for some fun, we would never have got this far without you.
Much has changed over the past year, apologies for the lack of updates but college and social life took me away from the website, however I am back now and college is almost ending so more updates should be more regular. Priory Junction (our main OO gauge layout) has seen some major changes to the entrance to the station to make it easier and better to access the depot from yard behind the station. All the trackwork has now laid and most of the ballasting is complete. The main control pannel from which we will be able to control all the point, signals and isolated sections (on the DC side) is starting to take shape with all the isolated sections being feed back into it. None of the points have point motors fitted yet (except at the top of the branch for controlling the auto-reverse) as we want to get it all working fine first. Talking about the reversing loop, it now has both low level (DCC) and high level (DC) loops attached and is working. This means that a train can now leave the main station and arrive back into it again without having to reverse at the end of the board. The reversing board is only a semi-permanent board so it can be taken down easily and will not have any scenery added to it. Exeter Central (our main N gauge layout) has taken rapid shape and now has all the legs attached so it can stand up on its own, and not rely on the tables in the middle of the room like before. The majority of the track has been laid and is mostly wired up for full DCC control. Half of the layout is now working and each week the another board is wired up and connected on so it wont be long before the other half is up and working. The only area yet to planned and for the track work to be laid is the engine shed which shall be based on (with a bit of modelers license) the Southern region shed, Exmouth Junction which was situated next to our club building and where the club takes its name from. Once again thank you to all who have helped out over the past year and here to a more to come. Thanks Adam (Site Admin) A selection of photos that were taken by myself and Graeme this week (15/07/2013) of work and progress on a very warm summers night. Thanks, Adam Another brilliant night tonight chaps. Probably the most productive night for a long time. Great to see such a good turn out and everyone getting stuck in and working hard!
Most of the N gauge boards (Exeter Central) are now assembled (only two left to do) and the cutting has been dug out on the OO gauge layout (Priory Junction) for the waterfall and river. All the covers for Priory Junction have been painted grey to match the underside, the whole thing now looks very smart! |
